America’s Job Centers of California Operated by JVS SoCal and Community Career Development (CCD) Partner to Assist Job Seekers Impacted by War on Drugs

Los Angeles, Calif., Dec. 11, 2019 – JVS SoCal and CCD, operators of America’s Job Centers of California (AJCCs), will begin offering a broad range services at no cost to program-eligible job seekers through an initiative funded by the Governor’s Office of Business & Economic Development (GO-Biz) known as the California Community Reinvestment Grants (CalCRG) Program.  Designed to address and repair the multi-generational impacts of the War on Drugs, this six to nine-month program will combine social services, personal and professional development activities, life, financial and job coaching with short-term vocational training leading to rewarding careers in high-growth industries.  A schedule of orientations to be held at the JVS SoCal-operated Veterans AJCC at Bob Hope Patriotic Hall and West Los Angeles AJCC, and the CCD-operated AJCCs in Compton, Mid-Wilshire and at Los Angeles Valley College Campus will be announced in January.

In November 2016, California voters passed Proposition 64, the Adult Use of Marijuana Act, authorizing GO-Biz to award grants to local health departments and qualified community-based nonprofit organizations to support communities disproportionately affected by past federal and state drug policies. The required services include job placement, mental health and substance abuse treatment, system navigation assistance, legal services and linkages to medical care. CalCRG programs, founded in science and data, are receptive to emerging and innovative approaches; they advance whole person, trauma-informed care and remain accountable to taxpayers and stakeholders.

The GO-Biz solicitation (issued April 2019) accepted applications through May 16, 2019. GO-Biz announced awards in September 2019 at which time JVS SoCal, CCD and GO-Biz entered into an agreement to implement the program from October 2019 through Sept. 30, 2021. CCD and JVS SoCal signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding in September 2019, held strategic planning sessions, produced enrollment forms, developed co-case management systems and conducted staff training on trauma-informed case management to prepare for the January launch.

The JVS SoCal/CCD CalCRG Program is uniquely suited to serve Veterans and military families, re-entry/justice-involved individuals/family members and program-eligible residents throughout Los Angeles County through co-case management services focused on workforce development.
