The JVS Scholarship Program celebrated its 45th Anniversary on July 27th with an Awards Ceremony at Sinai Temple. This year marked several milestones with over $694,000 raised and 220 deserving students receiving scholarships ranging from $750 to $10,000, the highest ever in all categories. First time recipient and accomplished pianist Benjamin Straus, who will be attending Johns Hopkins University in the fall, shared his personal gratitude for the generous scholarship and performed for the audience of fellow recipients, family and donors.
Program Co-Chairs Leland Felsenthal and Matthew Paul shared news and accomplishments, highlighting plans for a fundraising walk to be held next year on March 17 at Dodger Stadium. Past Chair Jonathan Karp presented the 7th annual Tzedakah matching challenge, raising a total of $40,000, which will support 16 scholarships in the next academic year. Since its founding in 1972, the JVS Scholarship Program has awarded $8.5 million to over 4,600 students.
