William Veyna

Success and transformation are what motivates me to come to work and do a good job. Knowing the fact that my hard work and perseverance will directly have an impact on another human(s) gives me great pleasure. I feel that aligning the company’s (JVS SoCal) vision and values with my own is one way to achieve that. When I know that my efforts are following the correct path, it encourages me to push more. Over the years I have seen participants come and grow. Motivation is seeing the change not only in the physical appearance but also the mental change that they have after participating in the GAIN program. Seeing a participant grow which ultimately leads to personal achievement and success is truly rewarding.

I wore many hats when it comes to assisting with IT related issues, supporting management and fellow staff with immediate tasks and managing office related duties and functions. How has your work changed since the COVID-19 pandemic started?

Pedro Alcaraz

COVID-19 has changed my workplace drastically, in many different ways. We have to social distancing  our self from each other for wellbeing of our cowers.

Roxie Small

I wear many hats as the rest of us, but I am the Cashier/Transfer Clerk and have been for many years. This place has always been the perfect fit for me.

Martha Carpentier

It’s my job to come in every morning and make sure that all participants in my unassigned pool get scheduled so that they can get the services and help they need to enrich their lives, so that they can have a better life for themselves and their families. Ana Martinez

How has your work changed since the COVID-19 pandemic started?
Since COVID-19 started, I now scan documents to GSW working from home, forward CIA requests from GSW working from home, and I’ve become the primary person to scan all files into LRS.

William Veyna

Social service has been on the frontlines of promotive, preventative and treatment services before, during and will be after COVID-19. COVID-19 has changed my workplace drastically. COVID-19 has caused our doors to be closed to the public, therefore I no longer see anyone come into the lobby, in addition we have social distancing and have to wear PPE, masks and gloves. In any workplace, change is inevitable; COVID-19 is one of the changes. One of my strengths as a Unit Assistant is to manage multiple tasks with professionalism and good follow-through.

Luis Valadez

I wear a mask, I can no longer bring delicious food from home because the breakroom is closed. How I miss that shiny new fridge and its awesome cooling power. Also the microwave, how it magically warmed up my food to its maximum tastiness. We also receive lunch provided by the company on Fridays. I truly enjoy that part! Thank you so much for the found food memories

Michelle Cases

Since social distancing is in place participants do get a little frustrated knowing they can’t come in but we do our best to reinsure them that they will get the help they need.

Lorena Ayala

During these times of COVID-19 there has been drastic changes in the office, the impact is being felt with the workload, constant sanitizing of the work area, the face mask, and the social distancing has not been easy. I am trying to stay very positive and I know that if we continue to follow the safety and health requirements not only at the workplace but in our personal lives, very soon we will be back to normal little by little.

Andrea Lizama

My work has become a little different not seeing participants face to face has been the biggest change for reception, but we still get to communicate with our participants through calls and being able to direct them to their workers or give them a point of contact. Change can be frustrating especially for participants at times because they don’t see us face to face it can get overwhelming for them but being able to give them the peace of mind and reassurance that we are still here to assist during this hard times is what we can do.
