Program Description: Job seekers and businesses alike can access a comprehensive range of employment services at no cost, from training opportunities and placement assistance to candidate recruitment, at the America’s Job Centers of California, operated by JVS SoCal. Job Description and Duties: The Business Services Representative/Career Coach is a specialist who will work with and support the county team in initiating, maintaining, and developing employer relationships, developing employment opportunities, internships, and work-based learning experiences that link to careers in a high growth sector.
This can be accomplished through On-the Job Training contracts, Transitional Jobs, customized Training and any other business engagement and training tools identified and/or approved by the County.
This person will also welcome customers and identify customer needs and expectations to create a positive customer experience. Part of their job will be to administer and interpret assessment tools. In addition they will help clients identify goals in their job search.
Towards the goal of employment, this person will develop individual employment and training plans that address employer needs and job-seeker capabilities.
They will be responsible for timely submission of data, case notes and reports.
They will possess or become knowledgeable about the range of services in the community while developing and maintaining relationships with partners to deliver a comprehensive array of services to customers.
The job will involve making group presentations and may involve delivering workshops in the areas of resume preparation, interviewing techniques, social media and on-line presence.
Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and some Saturdays. Will be trained on job retention strategies and may be selected for specialization. Will complete other tasks as required to fulfill the requirements of contracts. Outreach in Los Angeles County to collaborate with businesses for job placement.
The job requires over 80 – 100 cold calls per week to perspective employers and conducting presentations to various groups/businesses as it pertains to job placement goals and partner agencies.
Provide comprehensive case management/assessment activities (as needed). Coach participants on interview skills, as needed. Facilitate job readiness workshops. Advise participants in writing targeted resumes. Responsible for participant progress and job placement/wages/retention. Track data in Internal and State databases through data entry and comprehensive case notes. Must meet contract goals for job placement, training completion, and job retention. Develop working relationships with other agencies that provide services to program participants.
Other duties assigned as needed for the efficient operation of the Center/Program. Must meet weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly program goals as set by Program Manager. Must attend any state, county, local, or company 4-month training or meetings.
Qualifications and Position Requirements: Proven track record in business-to-business sales in a performance driven occupation.
Requires excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Requires the ability to understand labor market information and employer requirements.
Must be very comfortable and have the ability to cold call, network and open new business. Public speaking and presentations are mandated.
Must be highly organized, detail orientated and work within time restraints and deadlines. Work flexible hours, early morning, evenings and weekends may be required. Knowledge of WIOA common measures and requirements desirable.
Proficient in Microsoft office products including Outlook, Work, Excel and PowerPoint.
Must be assertive, friendly and willing to work flexible hours to meet objectives and goals. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions Will work in an office environment, travel to employer and client work sites. May be required to work some evenings and an occasional weekend day. Must be able to operate standard office equipment. Requires traveling to various business and other work sites. Education/Certification/Licensure BA preferred or 3 or more years of related experience. Preferred: Bilingual in a local Community Language is a plus.
