As the Government Grant Writer, you will have a direct impact in the lives of those we serve. You have a passion to help our program teams provide those most in need with the case management, job skills, training and tools required to give them a fresh start and a new career path and will lead the analysis and procurement of government grants and contracts. The preferred candidate will have a strong knowledge of the Workforce Development system.

Position description and duties:
JVS SoCal is seeking a passionate, mission-aligned, creative person who will research, plan, write, submit and manage government grant applications to local, state and national government funders. If this is you, you are also a goal-oriented team player and you enjoy working both independently and in a fast-paced team environment. You will bring creativity to blend with contract deliverables to explore opportunities for strategic growth and expansion.
You will lead all aspects of the government funding process that includes recommending funding opportunities to pursue. You bring to this position a clear understanding of the government funding process and your success navigating government funding websites and resources. You will be the lead relationship manager representing JVS SoCal with government funders. You will manage the government grant process from the research stage through to funding and implementation. In fulfillment of this, you will attend bidders’ conferences, evaluate grant applications for feasibility, complete grant analysis to aid in determining opportunities to pursue, and develop relationships with funders’ Program Officers for awarded contracts. In the proposal process, you will develop grant budgets in partnership with the relevant personnel from the Grants Department, Finance team, and Program team. This position may be required to prepare content for presentations to the JVS SoCal Board of Directors, relevant committees and external partners regarding grant projects and funding; and will assist with other projects as requested.
This position will manage awarded government grants using internal reporting systems, write and submit reports on time, maintain excellent historical records, and work with program teams to ensure each program is meeting proposal conditions and expectations. This position will track and manage prospective and declined grants and necessary follow-up. This is a full-time non-exempt union position and will report to the Senior Manager, Grants and Contracts, with a dotted line to the Director, Grants, Contracts & Strategic Partnerships.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Previous experience working with vulnerable populations in programs designed to foster personal growth and success.
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in government grant research and writing in the employment, training, social services, and/or educational arenas.
- Demonstrated knowledge of government procurement sites and research techniques.
- Minimum three years’ demonstrated success securing and managing government contracts of at least $500,000.
- Securing competitive federal awards is a plus.
- You bring demonstrated success in strong conceptual, computer and organizational skills.
- You embrace outcomes and pay strict attention to detail.
- You have proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- The ability to develop graphs and flow charts highlighting critical data.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
Able to operate standard office equipment and work from a blended home and office environment.
- Minimum BA/BS in Social Work, Education, Writing/Literature, Public Policy, Non-Profit Management, or a related social service field.
