Job Developer/Facilitator – Sun Valley
JVS SoCal provides valuable job preparation and job search skills to clients of L.A. County’s General Relief Opportunities for Work (GROW).
Job Description and Duties:
The primary function and purpose of this position is to enable each participant to find employment, as well to be able to deliver motivational and educational workshops to economically disadvantaged participants in subject matters associated with gaining employment and becoming self-sufficient.
Candidate will coach and assist clients in overcoming barriers to employment, will assist with filling applications, preparing for interviews, conducting job search, developing connections with the business community for the purpose of obtaining information about job openings and matching uncovered job opportunities with clients’ skills and qualifications.
Will be responsible for updating job resource center, updating job boards on a regular basis and assisting clients with the Internet based job search. Will monitor client’s attendance and progress.
Must also be able to lead a training class addressing the issues of preparing for and getting employment based on a curriculum developed for the program. Must have sensitivity to an array of issues program participants are dealing with and must treat each participant with respect.
Will be required to meet weekly and monthly deadlines and goals, serve as a role model for clients, meet with program participants on a daily basis, contact employers and refer participants to jobs matched with their skills and aspirations, follow up with employers and collaborating agencies.
May perform administrative tasks, such as, issuing transportation, preparing reports and updating computerized data systems.
Qualifications and Position Requirements:
Must have a track record of job placements or have the capacity of demonstrating this ability. Must know or willing to acquire/upgrade skills in developing resumes responding to the requirements of contemporary job markets. Must have proficient computer skills, commitment to quality, and a desire to inspire and assist unemployed and disadvantaged to obtain employment. Must meet identified employment goals on a monthly basis.
Strong motivational and oral presentation skills, with experience in leading groups in a classroom setting and ability to de-escalate tense situations. Should have concern for participants, and some knowledge of social settings; must be up-to-date in the contemporary trends of the American labor market. Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; prioritize the workload and be a team player.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Must be able to operate standard office equipment. Professional office attire required. Will work in business and classroom settings.
BA/BS Degree. Must be computer proficient and able to learn new data bases if necessary.
Bi-lingual Spanish, Russian, Armenian. Sales/marketing experience is highly desirable.
