Job Description and Duties: This role is a grant writing position and supervises one Grants Team member.
The Grants Supervisor will research, plan, write and submit grant applications for government, foundation and corporate funding. This position will track and manage awarded grants by developing and maintaining internal reporting systems, writing reports, maintaining excellent historical records, and working with program staff to ensure each program is meeting proposal conditions and expectations. This position will research government, foundation and corporate grant opportunities that align with overall agency long-range strategic goals.
This position will track federal, state and local government policy trends and developments relating to funding for employment, training and education. The Grants Supervisor will attend bidders’ meetings and evaluate grant applications for feasibility. The Grants Supervisor will develop relationships and meet with foundation funders and will work in partnership with the Associate Director of Grants and Community Engagement and JVS Program Directors to develop strategies for collaborative or independent grant submissions to Government, Foundation and Corporate entities. This position will develop grant budgets in partnership the Fiscal Department and Program Managers and must understand cost allocation plans. This position will work closely with the Associate Director of Grants and Community Engagement to develop yearly budget projections for revenue as well as monitor and assess progress throughout the year. This position reports to the Associate Director of Grants and Community Engagement with a dotted line to SVP of Philanthropy and VP of Programs.
Additional responsibilities include assisting with other projects as requested. This position may be required to prepare presentations to the JVS SoCal Board of Directors, relevant committees and external partners regarding grant projects and funding.
Qualifications and Position Requirements: Qualified candidates will have: previous experience managing a grants team or combined experience in managing direct service programs and grant teams; minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in government and/or foundation grant research and writing in the employment, training, social services, and/or educational arenas; knowledge of private and public fundraising information sources and proven track record with institutional donors; knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies; and knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising and prospect research.
This position will be highly-skilled and detail-oriented in preparing proposals/contracts for federal, state and local government agencies. Excellent budget development and monitoring skills. Experience in program development. Additional skills include: excellent planning and time management skills; strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively; strong conceptual, organizational and computer skills, including Office Suite, Blackbaud Raisers Edge, and the ability to develop spreadsheets, graphs and flow charts highlighting critical data. The ability to develop working relationships and collaborate with internal and external partners, along with excellent oral and written communication skills, are critical.
Minimum of three years’ success in securing and managing grants from various funding sources
Minimum of two years’ supervisory experience in a direct social service and/or grant-writing setting
Proven track record raising money from foundation and government sources
Program development experience preferred
Previous experience with non-profit fundraising
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions: Able to operate standard office equipment and work in an office environment.
Education: BA and/or MA in Public Policy, Education, Communications, Political Science or Non-Profit Management
