Vice President, Social Enterprise

Job Description and Duties:
Under the general direction of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), the Vice President (VP-SE) of Social Enterprise is responsible for leadership of new and innovative programs, models, partnerships and strategic alliances to help people prepare for the modern and future workforce; and is also responsible for the growth of the existing suite of Works programs. He/She will be expected to drive the overall development, integration and management of the social enterprise and innovation programs that span JVS SoCal. The position will have overall strategic and operational responsibility to develop and execute social enterprises, apprenticeship programs and innovative workforce training initiatives. The position must also secure industry sector leadership and businesses that are primed to hire graduating candidates, and manage ongoing employer relations to advance curriculum and meet employer requirements, through JVSWorks and JVS AJCC’s. This includes program design, managing idea pipeline, developing validation processes, hiring talent, setting budgets, taking proposals to decision-makers, managing program launches, and ongoing management of teams/programs. The VP-SE will implement strategy and programming, research innovation trends, manage resources, and assume timely and accurate communication. The VP-SE will test and implement innovative funding models and work in tandem with JVS’ Philanthropy Department to ensure their success. JVS-SoCal requires rigorous use of data, processes and lean methodology to guide and inform investment decisions. The VP-SE will increase the integration of programs within the organization, expand the impact and reach of the workforce training programs for the region, and perform related duties as assigned.

The VP-SE will lead and manage Program Directors and their respective staff to achieve mutually agreed upon goals and outcomes.

The primary responsibility of the VP-SE is to achieve goals and outcomes related to:

  • Driving growth and regional scale of programs
  • Amount of capital raised and revenue generated
  • Number of partnership agreements signed
  • Number of training programs offered
  • Number of participants enrolled in the programs
  • Employer satisfaction based on communications, curriculum and candidates

The VP-SE will work in collaboration with Program Directors to achieve goals and outcomes related to:

  • Participant program completion rate
  • Participant placement rate
  • Participant retention rate

Outcomes will be achieved by way of:

Program Leadership

  • Drive the development and implementation of long-range workforce training
  • Serve as liaison with senior leadership, department heads and committee leaders
  • Serves on regional organizations and committees
  • Collaborate with staff, executive management and affiliated workgroups to develop, submit and monitor the annual Works plan and budget
  • Develop strategic partnerships for program delivery
  • Oversee departmental operations in partnership with JVSWorks Program Directors
  • Develop relationships with funders and proactively minimize potential risks associated with fundraising, grants and contracts
  • Develop and nurture partnerships with employer partners from JVSWorks and JVS AJCC’s

New Program/Product Development

  • Lead, promote and encourage the development and implementation of innovative regional workforce training programs and make recommendations for future programs
  • Oversee development of new and updated curricula to meet the needs of business and industry, relevant to employer partners
  • Provide leadership to determine the demand for current and emerging occupations, assess labor market data and remain current of local, regional, state, and national labor market needs and trends
  • Identify, develop and implement effective processes for various phases of the social enterprise lifecycle (ideation, validation, piloting, ongoing management)

Fundraising
Working in tandem with Philanthropy, Grants and Executive Management:

  • Provide leadership in developing resources, funding and partnership opportunities
  • Provide stewardship and maintenance of industry sector leadership and funders and proactively minimize potential risks associated with fundraising, grants and contracts

Outreach

  • Develop and maintain system-wide community relationships, including relationships with employer partners through JVSWorks and JVS AJCC’s
  • Represent JVS-SoCal at Workforce Development and social enterprise conferences, meetings and events
  • In partnership with JVS Marketing and Communications Department develop and implement a social media strategy to promote JVS Socal’s innovation and impact around workforce training accomplishments and activities
  • Partner with JVS’ Marketing and Communications Department to provide social media ideas and content that will promote JVSWorks’ activities, accomplishments and impact

Human Resources

  • Assist in department planning, including succession planning, and make recommendations regarding personnel and structure changes
  • Work with JVSWorks Program Directors to develop professional development plans and support team members in achieving program goals and individual career goals

Administrative & Financial Management

  • Responsible for development and adherence to department budget
  • Responsible for adherence to contracts and audit requests
  • Monitor and report progress on key metrics and outcomes, including fundraising

Position Requirements:
Must have ability to:

  • Plan, organize and direct the development and implementation of workforce development training/apprenticeship programs and innovative social enterprises
  • Manage workforce development teams
  • Communicate effectively and succinctly both verbally and in written form
  • Effectively represent JVS SoCal and JVSWorks at events
  • Perform complex and technical tasks and research
  • Manage multiple projects and timelines
  • Demonstrate understanding of technology and online platforms including Microsoft Office, Google suite, project management platforms, social media, etc.
  • Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with colleagues and partners, exercising tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and complex issues
  • Apply business development principles to initiate, nurture and maintain collaborative relationships with employer partners throughout the JVS organization
  • Prepare, track and control budgets
  • Analyze data and information, reason logically and develop alternative solutions
  • Possess creativity and entrepreneurial spirit

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Must be able to operate standard office equipment, working in business, classroom and various other settings; lift and carry up to 5 lbs., occasionally up to 25 lbs.; have reliable transportation for conveyance to locations around greater Los Angeles; and may be required to work some evenings and an occasional weekend day.

Education/Certification/Licensure
Undergraduate degree with a major in business administration, public administration or a closely related field is required. An advanced degree along with 3-5 years of experience and/or education in the social sector driving program design, development, implementation and management of complex engagement, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred. Experience in a social enterprise start-up or social impact-oriented incubator or accelerator is also desired, along with business development, leadership and team management. Experience in leading early stage testing and development projects, including project management expertise in workforce training and/or career technical education.
