May 1, 2015 -- Our hometown Los Angeles Dodgers led the major leagues in home runs during the first month of the Major League Baseball season, and JVS is hoping the team’s power surge continues into May.
JVS is the nonprofit beneficiary of the Daniel’s Jewelers Trip Around the Diamond Feature for the month of May. For each home run hit by a Dodger player in May – at any game played either at Dodger Stadium or at a competing team’s ballpark - Daniel’s Jewelers will donate $1,000 to JVS. The program is generously underwritten by the Howard and Stephanie Sherwood Foundation.
With each home run, listeners to Dodgers Radio on AM 570 will hear “This trip around the diamond is sponsored by Daniel’s Jewelers, donating $1,000 for every Dodger home run this month to JVS L.A. JVS helps lift Angelenos out of poverty with job training, expert resources and compassionate support. Building better lives. One job at a time. Daniel’s Jewelers, Making Diamond Dreams Come True Since 1948.” The announcement will be made live by a member of the Dodger broadcasting team -- Hall of Famer Vin Scully, Charley Steiner and Rick Monday
“The Dodger homerun program not only provides much needed funding for nonprofit organizations that are doing important work in our community, it also provides a platform to bring wider attention and awareness to their important causes,” said Howard Sherwood, Chairman Emeritus of Daniel’s Jewelers. “JVS is providing those who seek their help with a way to literally change their lives. We have been most impressed by the outcomes of their programs and services.”
“Thanks to the generosity of Daniel’s Jewelers and the Howard and Stephanie Sherwood Foundation, Dodger home runs will not only power our favorite team toward the World Series, they will also benefit the thousands of struggling Angelenos who are helped every year by JVS’ programs,” said JVS Board President Jimmy Hausberg. “May promises to be an exciting month!”
In the five years of its existence, the Daniel’s Jewelers Trip Around the Diamond Feature has generated more than $525,000 to nearly 15 Los Angeles area nonprofits.
Representatives from JVS will receive a check from Daniel’s Jewelers on the field at Dodger Stadium prior to the June 5 game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
“Dodgers Radio is proud to partner with Daniel’s Jewelers and the Sherwood family as they so generously support local charities, one Dodger home run at a time,” said Joe Edward, Director of Business Development with Dodgers Radio.
