Mayor Announces $3.3 million in Federal Grants for Job Training

JVS BankWorks graduates Mariana Jimenez of Citibank, one of the featured speakers, Courtney Myrick of Wells Fargo and JVS CEO Vivian Seigel, joined Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and representatives from ten local job training programs for the announcement of $3.3 million in new federal grants that will train 1,000 workers in key industry sectors.

Mayor Villaraigosa was joined by Councilmembers Eric Garcetti and Paul Koretz, along with business, labor and community groups, as he announced new federal Workforce Investment Act grants to train workers in high growth, high wage industry sectors. The ten programs represented at theevent prepare workers for careers in entertainment, construction, transportation, hospitality, logistics, security, financial services, public safety, green technology and health care. Additional speakers included Charlie Woo, long time Chair of the Workforce Investment Board and Michael Klausman, CBS Vice President for West Coast Operations.
